BigWord is built to keep reading assistance private by default. Here's how that works in detail.
What We Don't Collect
BigWord does not collect, store, sell, or share:
- Images from your camera
- OCR'd text, except when you explicitly enable optional Pro cloud voice
- Voice recordings
- Analytics
- Crash reports
- Device identifiers
- Location
What Stays On Your Device
Camera input, OCR results, saved scan history, voice cache files, and settings stay on your device. Settings and scan history are stored locally using iOS UserDefaults.
Network Use
BigWord works offline by default. If you purchase BigWord Pro and explicitly enable Natural Voice, the recognized text you choose to read aloud is sent to ElevenLabs to generate natural-sounding speech. BigWord does not send camera images or background OCR text, and it falls back to Apple's on-device voice when cloud voice is unavailable or disabled.
Apple's Standard Analytics Opt-In
If you enabled “Share Analytics” in iOS Settings, Apple receives standard crash reports. We never see this data.
Camera Permission
BigWord asks for camera access only to read text. Images are processed in real-time and never saved or sent anywhere.
Children
BigWord is rated 4+. We collect no data from any user, including children.
